Jim Laramie has been with Altarum Institute since 1984, supporting the Military Health System and Veterans Affairs, focusing on health data analysis and forecasting, and pioneering the integration of technologies such as SAS Enterprise Business Intelligence with Web-based geospatial modeling, analysis, and forecasting tools to solve a range of health care delivery and optimization issues.
Mr. Laramie’s experience includes work on projects to determine requirements for military medical facilities and data quality control for the U.S. Department of Education’s Guaranteed Student Loan program. Since 1989, he has served as program manager for a computer-based, population-forecasting tool used by the medical services of the U.S. miltary to plan for medical services for beneficiaries. In addition to its invaluable cyclical use, the tool has been especially helpful to planners working with the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) commissions. In addition to managing this evolving product, he has directed the information system design of the system.
Mr. Laramie’s extensive knowledge of the Military Health System from the administrators’, providers’, and beneficiaries’ viewpoints ensures that the population-forecasting tool remains relevant to annual and special operations, such as adding medical benefits for the Reserve and Guard members called to duty in Afghanistan and Iraq or improving benefits for retirees and survivors in the TRICARE for Life program.
Mr. Laramie earned a bachelor of science in forestry as well as a master of science in biometrics from the University of Michigan.
