Through its subsidiary KAI Research, Inc., Altarum Institute provides clients with services focused on clinical research and pharmacovigilance. KAI provides health research services for both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the pharmaceutical industry. As a clinical research organization for the biopharmaceutical industries and the NIH, KAI provides innovative, cost-effective, and practical support to clients. KAI’s services include clinical studies support, data management, pharmacovigilance and safety reporting, medical communication, training, and quality assurance. KAI supports seven NIH centers and institutes, providing services related to the management, systems, and safety monitoring and the quality assurance of clinical research and the scientific enterprise.

Military Health System (MHS) Economic Requirements Analyses
Altarum Institute has developed the Health Care Requirements Analysis (HCRA) tool for forecasting the health care needs of local populations. These analyses are used in turn by facility planners to design and build health care facilities and systems to meet those needs.
