This Altarum Institute Roundtable report provides an in-depth summary of the May 13, 2009 Altarum Institute Policy Roundtable entitled "Leveraging Public Health Infrastructure to Confront Childhood Obesity: New Methods for Combating the Epidemic." This Policy Roundtable, cosponsored by the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ), examined Michigan’s and the County of San Diego’s recent decision to employ their existing electronic immunization registries as a means of monitoring the obesity epidemic in their jurisdiction. The Roundtable also explored the potential for employing this innovative new method for fighting childhood obesity in other parts of the nation. Speakers included William H. Homer, M.D., President and CEO, NICHQ; Matt Longjohn, M.D., Project Director, Altarum Institute Childhood Obesity Prevention Mission Project; and Philip R.
