Altarum Institute operates the technical assistance (TA) center for the Recovery Community Services Program (RCSP) for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. The RCSP builds capacity within recovery communities to provide peer-to-peer services promoting relapse prevention and long-term recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. RCSP grantees are distributed throughout the country and include projects that focus on populations defined by race and ethnicity, gender, ex-offender status, diagnoses of HIV/AIDS, mental health considerations, disability status, geographical region, and chosen path to recovery. RCSP grantees deliver peer services in a variety of settings, including recovery community centers, churches, child welfare organizations, recovery homes, drug courts, pre-release jail and prison programs, re-entry centers, behavioral health agencies, and HIV/AIDS and other social service centers.
Altarum provides TA for this initiative that focuses on:
- Planning, programming, and implementation of peer services;
- Engagement and retention of the recovery community;
- Organizational and leadership capacity-building;
- Stakeholder development;
- Trauma informed peer recovery services;
- Strength-based community assessments; and
- Sustainability.
