Altarum Institute manages the Maternal and Child Health Information Resource Center (MCHIRC) for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. It is funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau's Office of Data and Program Development.
MCHIRC provides data services to maternal and child health (MCH) professionals by conducting Webcasts, sharing public health data and trends, matching students to MCH agency internship projects in the Graduate Student Internship Program, and assisting with the development of journal articles for state and local MCH agencies. MCHIRC also develops data books highlighting findings of newly released data sources. Data books have included the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs Chartbook, Child Health USA, and Women’s Health USA.
Altarum has also worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to update data books, creating the Portrait of a Nation Series based on the National Survey of Children’s Health. The series includes The Health and Well-Being of Children, The Health and Well-Being of Children in Rural Areas, The Oral Health of Children, and Overweight and Physical Activity of Children.
