In collaboration with Texas A&M University, Altarum Institute helped the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research to improve the content, quality, and outcomes associated with combat casualty care data collection and management. Information that is collected and analyzed on service members’ injuries and medical treatment is maintained in a single, Web-based registry. In addition, the project is working with Army hospitals to determine best how to implement trauma registry programs within Army medical treatment facilities. Altarum is also conducting Tactical Combat Casualty Care surveys of recently redeployed first responders (combat medics and combat life savers) from Iraq and Afghanistan. Through these voluntary surveys, our goal is to improve training, techniques and equipment for combat casualty care.
