Altarum Institute worked directly with the 16 leading national African-American civic and social organizations (e.g., the NAACP, Urban League) to incorporate HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and communication strategies into their historic missions and day-to-day activities, with the ultimate goal of increasing HIV-related awareness, knowledge, and action within African-American communities across the United States. Through this project Altarum:
- Provided strategic planning and recruitment and engagement support to help set clear directions for the project and develop a membership strategy;
- Supported the network of Act Against AIDS Leadership Initiative (AAALI) organizations to enhance cross-communication and information sharing across the AAALI organizations through programmatic calls, webinars, conferences, and an AAALI e-communications platform;
- Implemented integration strategies with AAALI organizations to help partners integrate HIV prevention activities into their missions and day-to-day activities through technical assistance, engagement of individual AAALI coordinators, and evaluation and quality assurance activities; and
- Conducted program reporting functions to document and share progress, accomplishments, challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned through monthly, annual, and special reports as well as regular communication with the CDC technical monitor.
