Mr. Potter joined Altarum Institute when it acquired Vector Research, Incorporated (VRI), in 2001. Prior to this, he served VRI in several management and business development positions, helping to expand the health focus into the primary mission of the organization. He has played a key role in integrating and standardizing operations as the institute has grown.

Mr. Potter joined VRI in 1991 as a senior analyst. During the 1990s, he led evaluation projects on military health care for deployed troops, including evaluations of a theater medical information system, an armored treatment vehicle, chemically protected deployed systems, and telemedicine systems in Hungary and Bosnia. In 1997, he established and led VRI’s research group in San Antonio, Texas.

In addition to serving on projects for several nearby military medical centers, Mr. Potter established and oversaw studies for the State of Texas and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In collaboration with UTHSC, Mr. Potter established two four-year, multi-million dollar partnerships to study disease management for congestive heart failure and asthma among civilian, military, and veteran residents of Texas.

In 2005, Mr. Potter left the self-sustaining office in San Antonio and returned to headquarters in Ann Arbor as marketing director for all health programs. In 2006, as Altarum Institute shifted its focus solely to health issues, Mr. Potter became vice president for operations.

Mr. Potter is responsible for budgets, revenue and sales growth, contract services, staff growth and integration, and information security. Mr. Potter has played a key role in the acquisition and integration of two companies into Altarum Institute. Under his tenure, health-related revenue has increased 300%. Mr. Potter assists group directors, practice area leaders, and project team leaders so they work together seamlessly and consistently on contracts and projects.

Mr. Potter earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan and worked briefly in the printing industry as a financial systems analyst and subsequently as a marketing manager.
